Bold & Beautiful Bride

A bride’s gown is just about the most important part of her wedding day ensemble, but what wedding gown would be complete without jewelry, right? Pearls, drop earrings, delicate bracelets and dainty pieces are some of the most popular choices for brides. Timeless and classic is often what a bride is thinking when she picks her jewelry for her wedding day.

It has been a long tradition for the bride to keep her jewelry simple and feminine . None of these choices are wrong, they are beautiful and all up to the bride as to what she feels like wearing. On the other hand, a bride should not be afraid to be BOLD and step outside the box. Some of the most interesting Bridal fashions out there includes not only the gowns, but the jewelry and accessories that the gown is paired with.

Long, layered necklaces has been something we have seen more and more brides embrace. It takes the right dress to be able to pull off a bold piece of jewelry whether it be earrings, a necklace or several, chunky bracelets. If you are contemplating a bold piece, try it on with your dress before you decide to play it safe with a strand of pearls. You never know until you try and things always look different once they are on.

If you typically where bold pieces with your everyday look, then don’t be afraid to do the same on your wedding day. Same goes for someone who is a bit more simple with their day to day look, if that is your style then stick with it, even on your wedding day.

Whether a bride steps outside the box or sticks with the traditional pieces, it is important that she feels comfortable in what she is wearing! Feel good and confident in your wedding day ensemble and most of all, be you!!

Cool T-Shirts To Raise Money

Our very own Daymaker, Heather Scott, took some time last night at Grant Center for the Expressive Arts' PTA night to help her daughter's teacher, Ms. Sand, revamp the design of the spirit shirt for this year. This shirt's design is likely to be seen on all of the awesome kids that walk the halls of the elementary as well as all of the super cool parents and teachers who are inspiring our nation's future to be, well, artists!! This shirt is also a way for the elementary to raise funds for the PTA to help provide funds for more enrichment programs as well as super fun after school activities. The final design is still in the works but we know that with Heather's creative eye and with the help of all others involved it's going to be a great t-shirt that everyone would be proud to wear!!

With a deadline of Oct. 4th, Heather could use your help with suggestions on how to make the t-shirt SUPER awesome. Your input would help so feel free to leave a comment here if you've got some input or would like to get more information on how you can purchase one for yourself.

A Very Special Meeting

A trend growing in the Wedding Photography field is the Bride and Groom seeing one another in full dress prior to the wedding.

This is a multi purpose trend, first the emotions of seeing each other for the first time is still very high, and relieves the stress of seeing each other for the first time in front of a church full of friends.

This first meeting is done with just the bride and groom, no one else is allowed, except the photographer. Second it gives the bride a much fuller experience walking down the isle. Of course for the photographer this allows the photography that usually takes place after the ceremony to be done prior to the ceremony. This allows the wedding party and parents to proceed directly to the reception at the end of the ceremony. Also, it allows the Bride, Groom and photographer a window of time to get the SPECIAL photographs brides see and love to have for themselves. This special photo may be a number of different locations that in the normal wedding photo process would be impossible to accomplish.

Carolina Herrera Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 at the New York Fashion Week Collections

Carolina Herrera Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 at the New York Fashion Week

Carolina Herrera remains faithful to her ideas about fashion and has presented a very feminine collection for next autumn-winter (2009/2010), which is inspired by the 18th century.

Despite the tough times we’re experiencing, these new designs are made of luxurious high-quality fabrics like satin, silk, velvet, brocades and floral jacquard. Also, the Venezuelan fashion designer uses a wide range of colors including ocher, green, grey, deep red, pink, electric blue and metallic colors like silver and gold.

Party dresses

Although Carolina Herrera is well-known for her designs of long party dresses, in this collection they are less numerous compared to other seasons. Anyway, as expected, those dresses are always present and are really beautiful as usual.

First Dance Friday

An adorable pair, Abby & Jeremy are our First Dance Friday couple this week. They were married in Huntsville, Alabama on June 5, 2010 and their reception was at the Historic Huntsville Depot Roundhouse.

This second photo is quite special because it not only captures Abby and Jeremy during their first dance, but you see their parents in the background and her Dad wiping his eyes as he watches them dance. What a priceless moment!

Abby and her Dad dancing together! The Father/Daughter dances are just as special as the “first” dance!

These wonderful photos were taken by Alyson with Eternal Refelctions Photography. To see more photos from Abby and Jeremy’s wedding/reception and more of Alysons work, check out ERP’s Facebook page.

Congrats to Abby and Jeremy! May you dance your way through life together for many years to come!

It Only Takes a Minute to Remember

There are a number of small business owners around the area who work their fingers to the bone and put their heart and soul into making their business a success. Amongst the hubbub of taking care of their employess, making ends meet, the accounting, the marketing and the every day grind of hands on work, it's easy to forget that these men and woman have lives outside of who we see them as. Deanna Bender-Santos of Over the Moon Cafe is a prime example of this.

While having her day made today there were many topics of conversation that came up from one end of the spectrum to the other. There were laughs and serious moments but most importantly, the more she spoke with all that were here, the less she appeared to be "the owner of Over The Moon". It only took a moment to remember that she's not just a business owner but a mother of two. She takes on the task of being a part of a successful business and also manages to exude compassion and care for her children and family. She's a busy and amazing woman!!!

One of the best parts of being a Daymaker is the daily interactions we get with our clients. We ride with you on your journey through life and we are honored to be a part of it. Thank you all for being you!!

CAKES by Cory Lewis

“Creating the perfect wedding cake is the result of a collaborative process between the client and designer as well as the perfect blending of the purest ingredients, seasonal produce and skilled preparation. This is how I make your cake.” Cory Lewis

More than a sweet bite at the end of the celebration, the cake is an edible work of art.

At CAKES, Cory Lewis ensures that the details of every cake are custom tailored to your individual occasion and personal vision. Blending her knowledge of design with artistic skill and culinary expertise, Cory serves up cakes of extraordinary beauty, taste and presentation.

Cory holds a Masters degree in Fine Arts and has been a ceramic sculptor for nearly twenty years. After spending years refining her craft of mixing, shaping and intricately decorating clay with her hands, she went to Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School to study baking. Cory now combines her skills as a sculptor with the magical touch of a confectioner to create cakes that are truly works of art.

Traditionally, the cake was to be made with the finest ingredients symbolizing abundance and ensuring the same for the newlywed couple’s life together. A rich cake signified a well-formed marriage alliance and under no circumstances was the bride to bake her own cake or taste of it before the celebration, dooming herself to a lifetime of hard work.

All guests must have a least a bite of cake. To refuse is considered unlucky for the guest as well as the bridal couple. If an unmarried girl should tuck a piece of cake under her pillow, she ensures that her dreams that night will be of the man she will marry.

If you are looking for a beautifully designed cake with an unforgettable taste, contact Cory Lewis at 662.832.3638, or e-mail her at m.corylewis@mac.com. You can also visit her website, corylewiscakes.com and her Facebook page to get more information and see more photos of her cakes which are all truly each a masterpiece!

Castleton Farms, Nothing Less Than Unforgettable

Situated on 108 acres of rolling pasture, Castleton Farms is home to a Greek Revival Antebellum Manor surrounded by the beautiful mountains in Loudon, Tennessee. Modeled after the New Orleans Plantation, Houmas House, the home boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a beautiful spiral staircase in the main foyer, and a circular driveway complete with a twelve-foot, four-tiered Palazzo fountain.

The outdoor features at Castleton Farms are every bit as amazing as the home itself. The back of the home opens on to an incredible lawn with some of the most intricate landscaping in East Tennessee. Imagine an in-ground swimming pool with floating candles shimmering in the water on a perfect summer evening.

In front of the pool is an extraordinary water feature beginning with a Koi pond at the far end of the yard that pours into a brook just before flowing down several waterfalls. The last waterfall plunges into a large pond on the other end of the lawn that even has its own island accessible by an amazing land bridge. On the island sits a towering Jeffersonian-style Grecian gazebo…perfect for amazing photographs. Two brick bridges on opposite sides of the lawn take you across the stream.

Enveloped by lush flowers and greenery twinkling with white lights…patios, tiered gardens, and stairways take you down to the back lawn where a 150 foot walkway is waiting. On both sides of the path are Grecian columns just waiting to be decorated according to your taste. Surrounded by magnolia trees, weeping willows, and more Greek statues, an elegant tent for your guests is sitting under the beautiful canopy of the night sky. At the end of the walkway is a 20′ x 30′ raised platform where a covered pavilion with electricity and lighting await . . . just right for an elegant wedding, entertainment, or dancing.

Further across the property to the right is our vineyard. A walkway lined with Grecian urns leads to a beautiful patio, giving you a second option for your wedding or event site.

The Carriage House is a recently modified equine facility retaining all original woodwork and wrought iron accents. While the simple structure reflects a southern barn, the intricate vaulted ceilings create a cathedral feel for any event.

It illuminates an intimate and warm feeling while the large imported wrought iron chandeliers add the right touch of class to host any occasion. From a country barbecue to a chic 5-course dinner this venue will seat up to 150 guests.

Castleton Farms is an extraordinary venue and truly a place where all your wedding dreams can come true. To find out more about this breathtaking venue, visit their web-site: CastletonFarms.com or call them at (865)376-9040. You can also check out their Facebook page for more exquisite photos!

A Few Tips When Making the Guest List

For those of us who have already walked down the aisle, we have been there when it comes to making the guest list. Trying to make sure no one is forgotten, comparing lists with parents and groom, gathering addresses, creating a guest list is quite a task and can get stressful! So here are a few tips that should be helpful as you make your guest list:

  • Know your budget! This will dictate just how many guest you should invite.
  • Split the list 50/50. It usually works best for the bride and groom to each make up half of the guest list, unless one person has a much great number of family or friends.
  • Once you have sent out the invitations, if you begin to receive regrets early, then do a second mailing of invitations. Just be sure that you are still allowing guests enough time to respond.
  • Make sure the venue or location you are having your wedding/reception holds the number of guests you are planning to invite. This is also a good way to determine how many guests to invite. If the church only holds 100, but you have 150 on your list, then you have some thinking to do. Different venue or cutting your guest list?
  • If you haven’t spoken to someone in years, chances are they will not expect to be a guest at your wedding.
  • Dealing with family can get complicated, second cousins, third cousins . . . . as I just mentioned before, if you have not spoken to them in years, don’t feel obligated to invite them. Only invite the family members that are closest to you.
  • Do I really have to say this one . . . . no exes, period!
  • If you are really concerned about your budget, then it’s simple . . . . having fewer guests will extend your budget.
  • Since parents are usually involved and foot the bill for the wedding, it is a good idea to consult with them on the guest list.
  • Most importantly, invite people that you cannot imagine not sharing your special day with! Invite people that will share the joy of your big day!
