Join Us For Well-Being Wednesday

What: a gathering of alternative medicine practitioners, nutritionists, energy workers, massage therapists, healers, and promoters of general well being practices to share their knowledge, expertise, and magic with you and each other. We'd like to invite you to come to hear about various methods of enhancing your physical/mental health and life styles.

When: 2nd Wednesday of each month we'll have three 15-20 min presentations starting off with a casual mingling/networking and enjoyment of simple treats and refreshments provided by Smooth & Juicey. Between each presentation we'll Zumba dance – provided by Tea.

Where: Embellish Multispace Salon 1121 Ct. D Downtown Tacoma (by the YMCA)

Why: Because it’s fun to learn, we could all use a break from regular daily life, and we will leave with a renewed energy. Plus we’ll meet new people.

Brown Is The New Blond

“Balenciaga blond”—that perfectly platinum shade of bright flaxen that dominated at the Spring shows—seems to have fallen out of favor with the catwalking set. While Abbey Lee Kershaw is staying true to her Orlando Pita peroxide dye job, her icy-haired counterparts are switching it up. After Natasha Poly hinted at the chestnut change that was in the air at Givenchy last season, we have watched with relative awe over the past few weeks as Britt Maren and Emily Senko—both former blondes—turned up chocolate at Alexander Wang. Agnete Hegelund cashed in her platinum locks for a dark auburn that debuted at Couture and wowed at Rodarte as one of the only non-golden-wheat heads of hair to walk at the Mulleavys’ Midwest-inspired Fall outing. Even Ajak Deng’s platinum buzz cut—which was a signature at New York shows like Richard Chai, Nicole Miller, and Jen Kao—went noticeably missing in London, where she was back to her darker, natural color at Giles. But it wasn’t until we spotted Siri Tollerød at Fendi this morning that the brown-is-back movement really hit home. Not Siri! we thought when we saw the poster child for cornsilk white, Nordic strands sporting a dirty blond, bordering-on-light-brown look. “It’s hard to keep up,” Tollerød’s agent told us when we inquired about the transformation. After a bleach session with colorist Laurie Foley at Marc Jacobs two season ago, Tollerød has apparently embarked on a long grow-out phase in which the professionals at Ion Studio have taken her blond down a notch to blend in with her roots as they grow in. Words to the wise: Platinum makes for a pretty picture (and can skyrocket a runway career), but it’s brutal on the hair shaft. For Fall 2011, you’re better off brunette.

. . . have had this fun tutorial planned for well over a week now, as a follow-up to the ultra-chic and wildly popular side chignon, {which some of you had great success with}, but in all this week's excitement, hadn't a chance to post until now . . . perfect for unruly winter hair, this look is a beautiful, more casual alternative to the sleek classic chignon and goes easily from a day at the office to dinner reservations at seven . . .





{step one}
to ensure that your hair has enough texture for the hairstyle to hold, use a spray-in mousse applied to the roots and work through with a hair dryer; if you have flat or fine hair, simply apply more mousse

{step two}
using a comb, divide hair down the center, beginning at the crown of the head and finishing at the nape of the neck




{step three}hold both sections of hair separately, ensuring that you have all strands of hair in your hands
{step four}tie a single knot in much the same way you would tie any knot, placing one section of parted hair over the other, then looping that section though the created hole, pulling the two parts tightly
{step five}
now that you have a single hair knot, repeat {step four} to tie a second knot, layering on top of the previous one; twist slightly for effect




{step six}
secure with a bobby pin through the right hair part and hair knot, and another pin through the left hair part and hair knot; you may also wish to use a third bobby pin for the second knot created; finish with hair spray to hold any stray strands in place
{step seven}
a romantic silk or lacy blouse and a spritz of heady perfume and you're set for late matinée or an afternoon at the shops . . .{p.s.} perhaps a little more ambitious than the side chignon, and may require an extra set of hands, but if you do attempt, would love to hear! x

Feather Hair Extensions With Jessica Alexander

You may have seen Trish gallivanting around town with a super cute feather extention in her hair. We first came across this trend in Portland when we visited Trish's good friend David Scott and have since been trying to find someone in town that has added this to their repertoire. Two Donations in One Day!!

Yesterday was an exceptionally giving day. Both Sarah and Emily donated over a foot each of hair to Locks of Love!!! With hair growing at the average length of 3/4 of an inch every 28 days, these gals lost years worth of brushing, shampooing and refraining from chemical services to be able to give very healthy donations to kids who could use the amazing wigs that their hair will be made into.

MLK Ballet's Mistletoes!
